C++ Developer

About the role:

Hope Macy is a start-up fintech company growing its development team. We are an authorised payment institution and credit reference agency with the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and provide financial solutions which help people with vulnerabilities to manage their money. All our developers work from home and have flexible working hours.

Our technology platform is entirely cloud-based and is hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS) using a serverless architecture. We use C++ wherever it is practical so we are looking for someone who is highly proficient at writing C++ and has a detailed knowledge and extensive experience of the language. We do not require any prior experience of financial services and so would welcome applicants looking to make a career change.

Our platform is handling highly confidential information and keeping data secure is at the heart of everything we do. You should therefore have a methodical approach to software development and write code which is right by design. Your code should be well-documented, efficient and as simple as the task allows.

In this role, one of your initial goals will be to help improve our Open Banking service. You will need to gain a good understanding of the requirements and then develop the software to support a wide range of banks on our platform whole conforming to the Open Banking standards.

This role will also include working on other parts of our system, designing and delivering innovative and exciting products to bring our support for the vulnerable to new business areas. This is an opportunity to join a well-funded start-up company and help shape its technology.

As well as excellent C++ programming skills, our primary requirement is that you should care deeply about the engineering process and understand what makes great code.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include the following:

  • Writing clean, high-quality, maintainable C++ software and testing and debugging it.
  • Researching technical topics and creating documentation to aid the process of integrating new features into our platform.
  • Ensuring your output is high quality, well-documented, secure, and sets a high standard.
  • Taking ownership of the technical delivery of the tasks you take on.
  • Working with the team to agree the best technical approach to tasks and integrating with the work of others.
  • Providing time estimates for the work you take on, reviewing progress against those estimates and managing stakeholder expectations.
  • Taking part in code reviews.
  • Using build and deployment tools to automate the development process in different environments.
  • Being a good team player and communicating well with the rest of the team.

Essential Requirements:

  • Degree or equivalent in a technical subject.
  • 3+ years of C++ development experience in a professional environment.
  • A passion for software engineering and a deep understanding of how to write secure, high quality code.
  • An ability to communicate in English with a technical audience, both verbally and in writing.
  • A good team player with a “can do” attitude.
  • A private, distraction-free, dedicated home office in the UK with a fast internet connection.
